Thoughts on a Thursday

I don’t like “literary” books. There’s one reason for that: they’re depressing. They always have a lesson to learn and it’s always dark.

I’ve always gravitated to romance. First, reading it and then writing it. Romance kept me sane during a very difficult time of my life. I needed, desperately, to read about someone’s life getting better. Not getting worse.

Y’all, I still feel that way.

Some readers think that my books are dark. I will cheerfully confess that I do put the characters through some awful things. That’s been my experience with life. However, despite whatever the characters experience there’s always a happy ever after. There is always a rainbow after the rain.

Life can get difficult, sometimes. It’s important for us to always remember the cycles of life. What is bad will turn good again. Sometimes, what is good will get bad. Yet all we have to do is hang on and the cycle will change once again.

As a writer I choose to illuminate the joy in life, the positive things in life, and the love.

So, in these trying times, go read a book. Turn off the TV, the news, the predictions, the statistics and read a book. Hopefully, a romance. 🙂

  1. Praying you and your family are well. I thank you, for writing your books. As for me, reading is my way to relax
and to step into the story.

    Take care,

  2. Thanks Karen, I needed that. Especially today. The doom and gloom of what we are all going through is starting to get to me. When I’m at home I’m okay, but when I’m at work it’s a slap in the face. If you can imagine, at the Airport reduced flight schedules, etc. So thank you thank you. I will read a book.

  3. Thank you for your positive and uplifting note. I don’t watch tv but I do love to read. I only read fun interesting books and of course romance. Love your books! Reading The Singing Sands by Josephine Tey. I developed a fever Monday which only lasted one day but doc told me to be quiet for five days. By Saturday I will be stark raving mad! Thanks for your update ! Need pooch update!

  4. I feel u are correct on this point, when the time I go through are bad I find comfort in the historical romance books. I truly enjoy the books that u have wrote, I have 20 so far. It just transports me to a different place in my mind and that does help.

  5. I have never thought your romances dark. Yes, bad things happen but are resolved in the appropriate way for the issues and people involved. They have helped me through so many negatives in my life (nothing like yours) but bad enough. The romances themselves are so well written and so enjoyable that you are a top favorite of mine. I appreciate all the beautiful stories you have written that have been so well researched that I always learn something new to me. I want to thank you for all the wonderful, story filled hours you have provided and all the relief I have felt for both your characters and myself. Stay well. We need you!
