Are you a pumpkin spice latte kind of person?

In all honesty, I’m not.

I can’t remember when I started drinking coffee, but whenever that was – back in the dark ages – I never liked anything in my coffee. No sugar or cream or flavorings of any kind. Weirdly, whenever I drank iced coffee, however, I always liked sweetener in it. Go figure.

A friend of mine absolutely loves pumpkin latte. She waits all year for it to become popular. Of course, she drinks hazelnut coffee the rest of the year. That’s why we have vanilla and chocolate. It takes all kinds, right?

Pumpkin is really good for you. It has a lot of fiber. I’ve made some vegan pumpkin bars that are yummy, but not very often since they use date sugar and I’m trying to avoid anything that would elevate my blood sugar. One of the safest sugar replacements is erythritol – marketed under various names. My favorite is Swerve. Their brown sugar is amazing in that it is soft and looks and tastes exactly like brown sugar.

One of my favorite things at Thanksgiving used to be pumpkin pie, covered in whipped cream. Thanksgiving is going to be quite a challenge at the Ranney house this year. We may just do the Fourth of July thing, but instead of hot dogs and hamburgers will do soy dogs and impossible burgers.

So, do you like pumpkin spice latte? If not pumpkin spice are you in favor of other flavors in your coffee?

  1. I’m not a fan of pumpkin spice or even pumpkin pie either.
    I do like spice cake and carrot cake however……..

    If I have ANYTHING to flavor my coffee besides equal & a hint of cream it’s gingerbread creamer. They had it in the stores about 5 years ago during the holiday season and I just loved it! Unfortunately all the pumpkin spice lovers couldn’t tear themselves away from it and it guess gingerbread creamer didn’t sell well enough because I can NEVER find it anymore 🙁 So it goes with me, I’m always in the minority trying to rally the troups…

  2. Not a PSL girl. I’ll treat myself to a chai tea latte once in a while, but I’m more of an Earl Grey and English Breakfast gal.

  3. I like a couple of items flavored with pumpkin spice. I love pumpkin pie! I am the one in our family to make it at Thanksgiving and Christmas since I like it spiced very heavily. Sometimes the pies are very dark if I end up putting in a little too much allspice. I feel it makes a much more interesting than flavor than just cinnamon. The only other thing I can think of is a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks. I normally avoid coffee at Starbucks – I always feel it is roasted too dark for me giving it a burned taste. I worked in a neighborhood coffee shop 10+ years ago where we roasted our own beans 1# at a time, so I may be a coffee snob, but I like what I like! 😉 One of my favorite sayings is, “That’s why there are so many different colors of paint and flavors of ice cream!” Sometimes, too many options are overwhelming, but I am very clear on my coffee and pumpkin spice choices.
