I read this site the other day and was intrigued by his tale of Elvis Presley’s love of the Fool’s Gold Loaf.

According to the site:

“It’s a sandwich that consists of a loaf of buttered bread, a full jar of creamy peanut butter, a full jar of grape jelly, and a pound of bacon.”

I’d heard of Presley’s love of peanut butter and banana sandwiches, but never this thing.

How about you? Tempted?

What I find amazing is that one loaf is considered a sandwich. (Presley was reputed to have eaten two at one sitting.) Maybe like a sub?

That leads to this question: What do you call a submarine sandwich? A hoagie? A grinder? A hero? Or poorboy?

I used to call them poorboys, but have changed to subs and I think that’s because of the national chain of sandwich shops.

Here’s a cool site that defines where you’re from by what you call a sandwich.
