Did you know that oak trees have to be about twenty years old before they start producing acorns? The tree in the front of my house turned twenty last year.
Today I’ve been trying to work, honest, but my attention has been caught by all the squirrels. They’re sitting on the rocks in my front yard, their paws holding an acorn and just nibbling as if they’re starving. They aren’t. They’re so plump I wonder if they’ll make it up the tree or fence.
Last year the acorns covered my drive and the yard. You could almost hear them drop from the branches. This year the crop might be even larger. Walking on the sidewalk and the driveway was fun. It was crunch, crunch, crunch.
I really do want them to go away so I can concentrate. It needs to be write, write, write. Maybe I should just surrender and close the curtains.
I know they’re rodents with fluffy tails, but I’ve always been a fan of squirrels.
How about you? Are they a nuisance to you? Or do you like watching them?
(Oh, and I’m using WordPress’s new interface and it’s kind of strange/fun. I think it’s going to take a little practice.)
