I graduated early from high school and when I was 17 I joined the Navy. I had to get special permission to do so (long story how that happened). Off I went to the big wide world.
Y’all, at 17 I was one of the most innocent and trusting ducklings you ever met. I may have traveled the length of the Orient Express by myself, or been stuck in East Germany, or traveled to Scotland – again, all by myself – but I knew zip, zero, nada about people and predators. Since I’ve done the Perils of Pauline enough this year I won’t expand on that. Let’s just say I was gullible. I put myself in a dangerous situation.
The video below was an experiment to prove that other young girls are as stupid as I was. You might have already seen it, but it really hit home with me because it so perfectly illustrated how trusting young girls can be.

The parents yelled and screamed (which I would have done), but only one of them did what I think was correct: “We need to talk.” I hope all of them followed up with why the world isn’t all rainbows and puppies.
