This is one of those odd things that’s driving me nuts.
Why is this woman pronouncing coyote as kigh-oat? She’s a zoologist, so you’d think she would know how to pronounce the species name, right? So I’m leaning toward her being right, but is she?
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/pronunciation/english/coyote has the pronunciation as coy-oat-tea.
But the Macmillian Dictionary has BOTH.
Does anyone have any ideas? Webster says it’s pronounced as kigh-oat-tea. The internet has completely confused me. Any ideas?
(And it’s totally not vital – just annoying.)
