When I finish a book, I give myself a present. Once upon a time, long, long ago, it was jewelry. I can still remember the beautiful ring I bought when I finished My Beloved. It looked Medieval, with the colors of a stained glass window. Loved that ring.
Hope the guy who robbed my house liked it, too.
I no longer do jewelry as a “Yay me!” present.
After this last book I decided to buy a Cubii, an under the desk elliptical machine. I’ve been watching its development ever since it was first proposed by the Cubii team. I sit for most of the day and although I do exercise, it’s only for a half hour to an hour.
I ordered it from Amazon and when it came last Monday I followed the instructions to assemble it. Only the foot pedals needed to be screwed in and they even provided the screwdriver. I connected it to my computer and Bluetoothed (not a word, I know) it to the app on my phone.
The first day I did 10,000 strides. I think that’s about 4 miles. The next day I matched that. I’ve averaged about 5000 strides every day since then – deliberately doing less because my back was getting sore and I baby my back. I really like that tingly feeling I get in my legs when I finish, however. It makes me feel like I’m doing something better for myself than simply sitting.
It’s incredibly easy to work and pedal away, not realizing that you’re doing it. I’ve used a plastic stepper before, but it was lightweight and I had to keep putting it back into place. This unit is heavy, designed for under the desk use, and just the coolest machine.
Do you reward yourself when you finish a project? Would you use an elliptical under your desk?
