I have had a tendency in the past to open my mouth and stick both feet inside. I communicate a lot better with the written word than I ever did speaking. I have wished that I had a delete button, or a backspace key.
You see, sometimes I said what I thought, which was not politically correct at all. Not only that, but I could sometimes be insulting when I didn’t mean to be. I have numerous memories of things I’ve blurted out that still make me wince. It’s just that I sometimes talked without thinking, which is code for being really tactless.
I’ve practiced, over the years, being better. I’ve gotten to the point now that I can actually be out in public and talk to people without being a blithering idiot.
Heaven help you, however, if you ask me for advice. I try to avoid situations like that. I tell people that I don’t participate in advice giving. I’ve been known to walk away from certain situations rather than open my mouth.
That’s why I almost never comment on someone else’s blog. You will be very proud to learn that I have kept my fingers off the keyboard. Let me confess that it hasn’t been easy at times. 🙂 As one of my previous bosses once asked me, “You have an opinion about everything, don’t you, Karen?”
There is, unfortunately, a lot of stupid stuff written on the Internet. Everybody has an opinion whether or not it’s based on reality. And there are times when I want to correct people.
Some of that stupid stuff is located here. I cannot exempt myself from stupidity. Nor can I insert myself into the category of perfection. I don’t live there. I don’t even visit often.
How about you? Do you suffer from foot-and-mouth disease? Do you restrain yourself from making comments on blog posts? Can you just roll your eyes and walk away? (It’s a skill I’m still learning.)
