In Time for Halloween

I saw a coyote today – on my own back fence. S/he was smaller than I expected, but it was a coyote all right. Not a fox. Not a dog. There used to be oodles of them around this area, but this was the first time I’ve ever seen one jump on the wide board on top of the fence.

Flash saw him, but was inside. I allowed him to go bananas for a little while, but I was not letting him out. There was no way we were going to engage in a coyote/Sheltie rumble.

(This is a stock picture of a coyote. I didn’t whip out my phone – I was too amused by the whole situation.)

  1. Are they at all like dogs? I’m afraid I’d be like that commercial with the woman who feeds the raccoon because she thinks it’s a kitty LOL.

    • I LOVE that commercial. Maybe because I’m blind as a bat without my glasses. Seriously, one day I dropped my glasses behind the headboard and I had to get the spare pair to find them. Jeesh.

Honestly? I have no idea what they’re like. I know that they’ve eaten quite a few cats in the neighborhood, so I would say not.

  2. We also have coyotes, foxes, and deer around here. Don’t see them that often because this is a big suburb, but every once in a while you will see one.

  3. We still have some coyotes here in Northwest Indiana. Actually, Chicago has seen an increase this past year.

  4. Oh geez! How wild is that!
I use to see coyotes all of the time when we lived in NM.
They all use to hoot and holler out back behind our house, their way of chasing and catching the rabbits back there.
The poor bunny’s, we’d see all this fur laying around the next morning.
We also have seen rattlesnakes, a cougar some jack rabbits and loads of roadrunners.
We had a large barn owl that always hung around our neighbors roof top.
Geez, he was a spooky guy, the way his head seem to spin round and round with those huge round eyes.
Tarantulas, those were everywhere down there, they are bigger than what I thought, I do mean big, but they do have a great color to them.

If you don’t mind I have some more jokes. 😀

Where does Count Dracula usually eat his lunch? At the casketeria.
Where did the goblin throw the football? Over the ghoul line.
What tops off a ghost’s ice cream sundae? Whipped scream.
What is a vampires favorite holiday? Fangsgiving
Who was the most famous French skeleton? Napoleon bone-apart

    • I love your jokes, Dalila!

We have Texas tarantulas that are big and brown and blend in with everything. You don’t notice them until you see movement. Then you run like hell.

You’re right about the owls. They do seem to rotate their heads completely around, don’t they?

  5. We have a few in our county, but luckily they’re not too close. Seeing foxes is enough for me. Deer around the corner, but mostly squirrels, rabbits, and the occasional chipmunk around the house.

    • I’ve heard that. Flash the Wonder Pooch would have gone after him anyway. He’s not all that bright when a confrontation looms. Pretty much Alpha male in that respect.
