I read a study that stated people work better when they have either music or comforting sounds in the background. One day I stumbled onto two sites that offer sound effects. All you do is go to them and the sound effects immediately start. One is rain and the other is coffee.
I’ve read of writers going to Starbucks with their laptops and writing there. I just recently read another study that said the writers who hang out at coffee bars are, at heart, extroverts. They need the presence of other people.
Holding my hand up here as a card carrying introvert, I don’t think I could do that. I enjoy being all by myself when I write. In fact, it took me awhile to get used to Flash being near me when I’m working. The white noise of the coffee shop is strangely comforting, but too loud for me.
But the rain? I love rain. I should live in the Northwest, but I also love Texas. Whenever we’re forecast to have rain, it’s like a present.
The problem with a lot of sound effect programs is that they’re on a short loop. You start hearing repetitions. I can’t hear any repetitions on these websites, especially the rain one since I’ve listened to it more than the coffee site.
