I’m not going to enumerate all the stuff I have to do. You have as many things to do in your lives. We’re all busy. We all have deadlines.
Ever wake up in the morning and the first thing you think of is all the stuff you have to do? Then, that cascading feeling hits you, like an avalanche is coming and all the “things” start rolling down the hill accompanied by fear. I have been overwhelmed by STUFF lately.
I have lots of systems in place to help me remember everything. Probably too many. I have ToDoist that reminds me of what’s not done – adding to that avalanche feeling. I have index cards and my Levenger bleachers that put the cards right up in my face.
But you know what? Systems are only as good as you use them. At 3:00 AM this morning, I started going through everything on my to do list. I was relentless. The question I kept asking myself was:
Seriously, do I really, really need to do this?
What’s the priority?
I got rid of about 50 things on my list, and I prioritized the rest. My list isn’t empty – darn it – but it is cleaner. I think I’ll have to put that on my to do list, too. Clean up the list!
