That just made my day! Our yellow (he’s really almost white) lab was technically a backyard rescue. We saw him in the backyard chain link fence next door to my son’s house. He was just about a year old, full-blooded Labrador Retriever. Apparently, the owners paid quite a bit for him from a reputable breeder then found out that Labs do not make good indoor puppies. They put him in the back yard without any shelter or sleeping bed. All they did was feed him. It broke my heart to watch him in the rain and during the winter (mild though they might be in SE Texas. I told my son to tell the family I would gladly buy him. If they refused, I was planning a backyard heist rescue. A few months later they offered to sell him to me for $100. I asked for his AKC papers and gave them $150 cash. Poor dog wouldn’t come in the house when we got him home. He almost wouldn’t walk on the tile floor. He was skid dish and wary. With lots of love and care he bonded with our rescued Chocolate Lab and us. Now, six years later Brogan (after we changed his awful AKC name) is a wonderful dog. Smart, funny, easily trained, and loving. Our other Chocolate Lab Brenna, is also a rescue. In fact, you might have seen her on Animal Planet’s Houston Animal Rescue series about seven years ago. We adopted her. Our rescues have turned into happy, happy dogs!
