Every once in awhile I see something I really want. In other words, I undergo a severe case of tech envy. This time it’s Jibo the robot:
The consumer version of the robot will cost $499 but you can preorder Jibo here with a deposit of $99.
Most of the time I don’t use Siri on my IPad. I forget to use it, but when I do it’s amazing how “un-robotic” it sounds. Maybe the key is making machines sound more human like HAL in 2001, A Space Odyssey. Now that was freaky artificial intelligence.
Are we on the cusp of fantastic inventions? I believe we are, just as I think we should be very careful about our dependency. For example, the robots Bo and Yana featured here. Call me ridiculously old fashioned but I think children should learn from their parents, from school, from their playmates. If adults want to play with robots that’s another thing entirely.
