I stumbled onto Margarita Kareva’s photography the other day. Here’s a website that showcases some of her work.
As I was scanning the photographs I realized that my brain was making up stories about the pictures. I do that all the time. I think in stories. The photo above is about a witch all dressed up in “normal” clothing. The crow (if that’s what it is) is her familiar transformed into a flying beast so he can keep up with her carriage. She’s trying to fool people that she isn’t really evil. The Prince, who is mesmerized by her beauty and charm, is almost fooled. Almost.
In this picture I saw a princess captured and transported to a frozen fantasy world, doomed to remain imprisoned until she divulged the location of the Box of All Secrets. She can go only to the end of the bridge before she would be transformed into one of the warlike statues. In vain she looks for help to arrive, but centuries pass before she is rescued.
How about you?
What do you think of the artist’s photographs? What stories do they evoke for you?
