I’m a very patriotic person. I love my country. I was lucky enough to live in enough foreign countries that I recognized the blessings of being an American citizen. I’m well aware of our country’s problems. I know them, but I still believe America is the greatest democratic experiment ever created.
I don’t talk politics on the Warm Fuzzies blog and I’ve come as close as I want to today. Everyone has the right to make up their minds on how to vote, what to support, and who to champion. That’s one of the great things about our nation. However, I do feel very strongly about certain things that aren’t really political – or at least I don’t classify them as such.
1. For the love of all that’s holy, only buy American flags from American manufacturers. No more flags made in Pakistan or India.
2. Same thing with American flag pins. Reading “Made in China” on the back is like a slap in the face.
3. If you are going to fly a flag, please make sure it’s in good shape. If it’s tattered, take it to the Boy Scouts or the VFW and have it disposed of properly. You’re not supposed to just put a flag in the garbage.
4. Someone, somewhere, somehow needs to get the VA in shape. It’s a sin for men and women who have fought and nearly died for us to be waiting for treatment. I am eligible to go to the VA. I received a letter from them a few months ago confirming my treatment eligibility – SIX YEARS AFTER MY INITIAL INQUIRY. Good grief.
Okay, rant over. I hope you have a lovely and safe Independence Day tomorrow – and weekend.
