I am almost at an end with Google Plus. Now I like several things it does. It’s purty. It has easy graphics. Behind the scenes, however, it’s a pain.
You have to have a Google Plus Profile. Once you’ve established the Profile you can set up a Page. Hootsuite will not post to a Profile, only to a Page. Several other systems will not post to a Page, only a Profile. So BOTH have to be updated all the time.
But the main thing I don’t like is the spam. Of course, it isn’t presented as spam. I joined a few writing groups and I’m forever getting assaulted with “by my book!” stuff. Oh, and the reading groups? Same thing, even though they have nice messages asking writers not to try to sell their books. I do like the dog sites, but after a few hundred pictures of a puppy’s butt, you’re done.
Maybe I’m not the social media type.
I don’t do much on Twitter. My main thing is Facebook because it’s fast, but even Facebook is giving me hives lately. You can’t post to all your readers without paying them. They are not activating all the links when you post a status update.
When I read that Google might be abandoning Google Plus I sent up a cheer – a sure sign that I shouldn’t be wasting my time.
How about you? Are you a Google Plus kind of person?
