This is my second post about The Witch of Clan Sinclair (April 29th). I am not going to bore you with endless messages about BUY MY BOOK!!! so I’ve limited myself to a few posts this month about the book. Same thing with The Virgin of Clan Sinclair (May 27, 2014).
I have this thing for strong men. Not necessarily Alpha men because I think Alpha men can sometimes be like GI Joe – great in an emergency or a crisis but out of their element in peacetime (or a relationship).
Yes, I think there’s a time for a guy to be, “You Jane. Me Tarzan.”
But not all the time.
Give me a strong guy who’s intelligent, who has a well developed sense of honor, who has a need to BE something in his life. He’s occasionally affected by lust but love can really screw up his life until he makes some accommodations for it.
In other words, enter Logan Harrison.
Logan popped into my mind because of something I read about a bookseller in Edinburgh who purchased his stall after being an apprentice. That led to his complaints to the city about something which led to reading about the Lord Provosts of Edinburgh. Logan was suddenly there, a Highlander of old in the personality of a 19th century politician.
He’d risen through the ranks, been elected to the Edinburgh City Council and from there, Lord Provost. In addition to serving on the Council, he was also responsible for greeting any members of the royal family when they visited Edinburgh and appearing at ceremonial occasions such as opening schools, hospitals, etc. In that function he wore a kilt which is how Mairi (our heroine) first saw him.
Mairi thought of him as a bear of a man. He was a great deal more intelligent – and cunning – than she gave him credit for initially. Soon, however, she realized she had her hands full dealing with Logan Harrison. He was not like other men she knew.
As for Logan, he found himself attracted to Mairi from the beginning. After being counseled by his political advisors to marry, he set his sights on three women who were politically well connected and could advance his career. Mairi kept intruding. Here was a woman like no other: stubborn, opinionated, and possessing one of the best minds – male or female – he’d ever encountered. She made him question himself and his ambition.
Logan was deliberative, gathering facts and taking time to make a decision. Once he decided on a certain course, he didn’t let anything stop him from achieving what he wanted. Once he decided it was Mairi she really didn’t stand much of a chance.
