Did you know that tomorrow, 6/9/12, was National Get Outdoors Day? I may try it myself.

Do you watch book trailers? I don’t. To me, books are an internal thing. I don’t want to spoil the reading experience by being subjected to what the author thinks I ought to “see” when I read. However, I’m more than willing to be proven wrong. Do they inspire you to buy a book you wouldn’t ordinarily buy?

I’ve been reading natural health books for dogs. Flash the Wonder Pooch is going on a special diet. This Weight Loss Stew is made in a batch, then fed 2 cups twice a day (with a doggy vitamin):
- 4 cups veggies
- 1 cup oat bran
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1/2 pound ground turkey, chicken, or beef
- 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
- Animal Essentials calcium
Seriously, doesn’t that sound yummy? I’d eat it, except for the Animal Essentials calcium, of course. He’s being weaned off his Science Diet stuff next week, and converted to “real” food. I’m willing to try this for a month or so, to see if he loses any weight. Oh, and for the treadmill? Yesterday, I gave him pieces of cauliflower as treats while he walked. He was happy as a clam.
After reading the books, I realized I might have been doing something wrong all along. Portioning his food throughout the day kept him hungry. Last night, I fed him the rest of his food all at once, along with some cauliflower. For the first time in ages, he slept through the night. (Okay, I was the one who woke at 3:00 AM.) This morning, he got half his food and he immediately fell into a food inspired torpor. He’s at my feet snoring right now.
Oh, and this info from one of the books cracked me up: a Sheltie is considered a “small dog”. His temperament: Barks excessively. Non aggressive. Seasonal shedding. Sometimes stubborn, suspicious of strangers. (Really? LOL.)
Flash, ready to be brushed. See all the dark fur on the carpet? That’s not him. That’s from the toy he tried to eat. Sigh.Have you tried a natural diet for your pet? What are you doing this weekend to celebrate National Get Outdoors Day? What do you think about book trailers?
