I never fail to learn something every day. Some lessons are not very profound. Some are.
For example, I learned – from reading Cesar Millan’s new book – that ignoring Flash during one of his barking sessions really does shorten it. My commenting to him or even trying to get him to shut up only made the situation worse.
I learned that the new technique I’m using to write the new book is working fantastic – that surprises me, since it’s totally different from anything I tried before.
I learned that Strunk and White’s The Elements of Style really is a genius small book.
I learned that my discomfort with my new computer is just a form of ignorance – and that the more I use it, the more I know and the more comfortable I am.
That was just this week. Can you imagine what I’ll learn next week?
How about you? Any lessons you’d like to share?

I discovered this past week that, unlike my inability to coherently read two books at one time, I am able to work on two totally different writing projects at the same time. I guess my muse is better at separating stories from one another than I am. : )
That is so cool, Amy. Sometimes I think it’s great to give our brains a break by switching.
I just found that some hidden artistic talent that I hadn’t used for many, many, many years are still there for the taking. Now to get the confidence to pursue it (which is why I never did).
And that’s wonderful! Fun, too. I think you should just say to heck with everyone else and do what you want. Most people regret what they didn’t do, not what they did.
Catslady, with so many outlets to express your artistic abilities, I say go for it. Start slow, build your confidence until you’re ready to show the world. Show your friends first. I know from experience that family is always more critical, so start with good friends. You can do it, especially if it’s something you love. Break a leg! : )
