The above picture of my office is pretty current. The lamp has changed. The chair has changed. The humongous desk unit is still the same. And Flash the Wonder Pooch is still the same.
The curtains will never be the same.
Please note, they’re floor to ceiling. I never thought anything about them being floor to ceiling. After all, the windows are floor to ceiling.
Flash the Wonder Pooch, however, saw them as pillows. When he’s on his bed, he won’t use the bolster edge to prop his widdle chin on. He uses the window sill. And, of course the window sill is too hard for our prince, so he move the curtains into place, and rests his widdle chin on the curtains. Even if doing so means he has to pull hard on them.
So guess what the hems look like? Yep, you guessed it – doggy drool. Ewww.
Now I need to schedule the handyman guy to come over and remove the curtains since they’re so high I can’t reach them (and the ladder won’t fit because of the workstation), take the curtains to be cleaned, then hire the handyman guy to come over and put them back up.
Thanks, Flash.

If you have the curtains cleaned you’ll have to train Flash not to rest his chin on them. Why don’t you buy him a little pillow? My dog and rabbit both had a pillow.
He has a pillow. Well, he has a bed with bolsters, so he wouldn’t have to hurt his widdle chin. You would think he’d use that, hmm?
Hi Flash!
Do you think you could stop over and help me open the curtains for me? I’d love to sit on the window sills but the darn curtains are so heavy I can’t open them myself and Ms. Jeanne says because it’s so cold out that have to stay CLOSED! How am I suppose to see if there are any crawly things out there not being able to see outside?
I’ve had to content myself with sitting on the kitchen counter and Ms. Jeanne likes to cook and bake so it usually ends up I’m laying on top of her cook books! Not comfy in the least and she gets unhappy because I’m NOT suppose to be there to begin with! Of course to tempt me to get down (and stay there) she gives me cat treats! I like getting a reward for doing the WRONG thing!
Give me some hints Flash because you’re the smartest dog I know (okay your the only dog that’s my friend but you’re still the best dog)!
Hope Ms. Karen lets you go outside today and enjoy the sunshine!
PS: Would you like some snow Flash – I’ll be glad to send you some because we have plenty here to go around!
Your friend Charlie (aka Atilla the cat)
Charlie, it’s 79 here today, and I only know that since My Karen is going around mumbling about it. Yesterday, she was happy because it was 69 and perfect.
I would stay outside more but I’m afraid she will get some food and I won’t be able to stare at her while she eats it.
You’re okay for a cat, Charlie. I have developed a new skill of launching myself vertically from the floor. I look like a helicopter. I’ve obtained some goodies from the kitchen table in such a manner. However, I have been scolded afterward. We Shelties are very sensitive. I’ve pouted for hours afterward.
I would consider hanging on the curtains with your claws until Ms. Jeanne opens them in exasperation. We pets tend to get more stuff when we’ve exhausted our humans.
Hi Flash!
What a fantastic idea Flash! Hanging on the curtains will most definitely do the trick! I’ll finally be able to gaze outside even if it’s a little cold to be out there myself!
Of course with my luck their will be ice covering them – it’s that cold out Flash that the darn stuff just isn’t melting! It’s to the point if I managed to sneak outside I’d sink to the ground and be covered with snow!
My cage is packed and ready to go so just let me know if Ms. Karen would like me to come visit! and I’ll be on the next plane out! I’m already picturing in my little kitty head the sunshine bearing down on me as I run around the backyard with you!
Charlie (aka Atilla the cat)
Charlie, old boy, you’re always welcome, but My Karen is under deadline and it’s not safe to be around her right now. Maybe after June 1?
Flash, isn’t it really hot in June where you live? Do you think Ms. Karen will keep my water dish full and put it outside so I can chase away all the birds in your neighborhood if I come in June?
Better yet, you could come here where it’s cooler if you’d like! You’d really like our fresh water lake or I could take you to the ocean which is two miles away! Mr. Doug sells hot dogs during the summer and I know he’d feed you as many as you want! The water is really nice there for dogs (not so much for cats like good old Charlie but I do like the lake because there’s a tree for Ms. Jeanne to sit under and read while I get to chase the birds and squirrels!
You’d really like it here during the summer Flash – the winter, not so much because of all the darn snow!
Flash needs a widdle pillow or pad for his widdle chin – he’s smart enough to make his own pad – what a smart fella!
He has bolsters, though. I bought a bed for the kitchen (which he uses when I’m cooking or when he’s got something special, like a carrot, to eat. One for the office so he feels secure. One for his “bedroom” plus a soft towel he can arrange for his sleeping pleasure.
Well Karen, it could be worse- he could grab your pillow off your bed and use that to rest his widdle head on. Leave behind some drool for you to snack on later while you are sleeping. Why don’t you shorten your curtains by a few inches? Have fun!
You’re right!
My bed is pretty high. His sleeping area is beside my bed. He doesn’t really get on the furniture unless I invite him up, though. That’s only for a scratch and a cuddle.
The idea of doing any sewing just makes me shake my head, Christine. I’m so inept at it that it’s funny. I could always tape them, though. LOL.
Flash, when I asked Marco his opinion of you using the curtains as a pillow, he said ‘geesh, that’s what stuffed toys are for.’ I guess that means he didn’t approve any more than your Karen or I do. Of course, he got kind of huffy when I told him you had floor to ceiling windows – he has to either get on the bed and sit up every time he wants to see out or sit on the couch with his head on the back, but then he can’t see over the porch – I think he’s jealous. : )
Funny you should mention stuffed toys. I bought Flash one the other day and he just stared at me like I was insane. What do I do with this? Funny episode.
Flash does have a squirrel eye view of the world and when one of the baby squirrels scampers over the yard, he’s on alert!
It’s funny how some dogs – like Marco – absolutely love their stuffed toys and others just look at you like ‘you have to be kidding, those are for puppies!’ Obviously, Flash is much too mature to play with fake friends. *wink*
I had a cocker, before I got married, who didn’t play with toys AT ALL. Tough girl to buy for! : )
I haven’t seen any suggestions for cushions for the window sills? I don’t know how wide they are but surely you could find something that would fit, either a regular window sill cushion or make one by stuffing something (it has to be easy enough). Shortening the drapes is a good idea too unless you have drafts along the floor like I do. Flash does certainly add color to your life. What would you do without him?
